ICFF 2004 - New York City

Other Shows
Along with the main show at the javits center, a host of galleries, showrooms and organizations showed collections of furniture, products, housewares and concepts throughout the weekend.

----
As always, Felissimo Design House had a number of great collections on display. One of the shows, "DesignMatters" exhibited 35 contemporary Israeli designers working in lighting, housewares and furniture. The objects adress daily life, and explore ways in which design impacts and interacts with society in a humble, yet delightful fashion.

Swarovksy and The Apartment put together an interesting, if incongruous, show. Swarovsky showed a new crystal light fixture designed by Yves Béhar. Entitled "Nest" the giant crystal structure (12 feet tall!) has an electroluminescent fabric through the middle, with enveloping lines of crystals wrapping around it in a circular pattern. Béhar was invited to redefine the notion of "chandelier" using all the resources the Swarovsky has at their disposal.

The Apartment, a NY-based modern design store that has morphed into an interior design and branding consultancy, presented an exhibition of their past, present and future as imagined by British illustrators Black Convoy. The carboard and tape installation was a fascinating portrayal of dynamic design organization that is in the midst of a continual transformation.

Taking advantage of the design audience in town, Pratt Institute presented an exhibition of 60 years worth of work by graduates of the industrial design department. {Full disclosure...Core77 was included in that exhibit!} The department has quite an illustrious history and the exhibit is full of 20th century design icons, all designed by former Pratt students.
