With virtual and mixed reality products becoming evermore popular, a key challenge lies in creating enough high quality 3D content to populate such virtual worlds.
Enter The Lightfield One.
The Lightfield One is a volumetric camera that enables its users to easily capture and record content in the form of 3D models & 3D animations. With the Lightfield One, capturing high quality 3D content has never been more accessible.
To create 3D models & animations using The Lightfield One, firstly, the user films or photographs the scene they wish to capture. The captured data is then sent to Lighfield's cloud GPUs for fast processing. Finally, the user receives a processed 3D model or 3D animation that is ready to be used.

As Lightfield's inaugural product, the 3D design direction and CMF (Colour, Material, Finish) selections for The Lightfield One would play a huge part in defining the Lightfield Brand. The project therefore started with four highly distinctive concept directions, each of which was styled to appeal to a different subset of the market. These were tested with consumers in order to gauge the optimum direction for both the product and brand. The winning concept route, titled "Celebrated Functionality" was selected as the chosen direction.
The functional requirement for protecting the camera lenses inspired the Lightfield One's unique form. The recessed cameras protect the lenses from damage, while also drawing attention to them - celebrating the device's function. A looks-like-real 3D printed prototype of this design was created to further refine the design, usability and ergonomics.
In order to ensure flexible versatility of use, the Lightfield One boasts multiple attachment points, enabling users to mount various accessories (such as Tripods, Gimbals & Handles) to the camera. A large HD touch display on the rear enables clear previewing & view-finding, as well as being home to the camera's user interface and preference controls.
The final Lightfield One design utilises an array of 24 4K lenses in a uniquely compact form factor to enable it's users to easily capture and record cinematic quality content in the form of 3D models. The design also sets the tone for Lightfield's 3D visual brand language, with an instantly recognisable design aesthetic that's easily translatable to future product developments.
The Lightfield One was soft-launched via a partnership program on their website, in order to beta test the initial product.
