When I was hiking in the mountains of the Appalachian Trail, cell service would fade in and out with the change in elevations as well as what side of the mountain you were on. Often I would find myself miles away from the nearest hiker. What if I had fallen or gotten hurt along the way? Would anyone have been able to hear me yell for help? The technology we have today can solve this issue and potentially save lives. My solution came in the form of FLiCK, a quick deploy emergency drone.
The idea of an outdoor drone seemed too easy at first, until I thought about the possible life saving applications that could exist with today's technologies. I designed FLiCK to be a few things: small, simple, and easy to use. With a single press of a button and the "flick" of the wrist, FLiCK can be deployed using one hand in compromising situations.(think 127 hours type of compromising) The purpose of FLiCK is to fly upwards and away from obstacles to find cell reception. After finding reception, FLiCK will do one of two things: either bounce the reception back to the user, or contact emergency services for the user and relay the location.
FLiCKs mechanisms are all internal (to resist dust and water) and activate as soon as the button is depressed. Releasing the torsion springs and throwing the arms out from under the body, revealing powerful quad motors that propel FLiCK up and away.

How does it handle adverse weather conditions, wind, rain, snow? Weather is a significant factor in emergencies, currently this device doesn’t seem strong enough to handle poor weather. Many people going into situations where they will be out of phone range carry a satellite beacon, like those from ACR or Garmin.
