The future of farming is changing, drones are roaming the skies and patrolling the ground studying crop yields and collecting data. At least, that's how I imagine the future of commercial farming. This project explores that future and the solutions that new tech can bring to the commercial industry.
When given the chance to design whatever I wanted, I longed to dive into the Kentucky part of me that is rooted in the agriculture world. Being raised with a family who farms, I know the struggles that they face every day and the struggles that are yet to come. Struggles like a small workforce, feeding a growing population (billions and counting), all while maintaining a healthy family life.
My goal was to design a wheeled platform that incorporated existing technology and addressed (and I believe will solve) the problems explained above. Beginning with research in the commercial farming industry, paired with personal experience, I found many things that surprised me. A lot of which had to do with the wasted time and resources spent just maintaining the farm. Some tech I had planned on incorporating could already be found somewhere in the agriculture world (use of drones, airless tires, etc.). The only company that I found leading the charge into agriculture innovation was Case with their autonomous tractor concept (as well as their Tetra front loader concept). I found it appropriate to base my developing concept off of Case and use their brand language as inspiration for my sketches and CAD work, to anchor my design in reality and appear more feasible.
