ODD is a set of desk organizers that repurpose thrown away materials like scrap papers and plastic straws to create a new value of its own.
Initially, my project did not start as repurposing thrown away materials. In fact, it was to explore the concept of how messiness and chaos promoted people to be more creative. However, throughout the research process, I found that people are more creative when they are present with unordinary objects or materials. Thus, this lead me to explore various types of mediums, which lead me to the point of how I started to repurpose thrown away materials.
The refined concept was more tangible and exciting than the first idea because the original purpose of evoking people creativeness did not have any quantifiable measurement as a result. I began to scavenging materials like used plastic straws from nearby cafés and scrap papers from people's old essay papers and school library. While the materials were being collected, I started making quick prototypes, and it resulted in creating some raw forms and functionalities. After several iterations, I have created a mold for the base with the logo 'ODD' and jigs for holding straws and scrap papers while it's being cast with cement and rubber. In the end, I have created a set of desk organizers with weird and odd characteristics.
