For the past year, I've been developing fully 3D-printed footwear. Made from TPE, and with nothing glued, stitched or added to the shoes, they are fully recyclable into 3D-printing filament to make new products. And as each shoe is 3D-printed, each shoe can be totally different, allowing customers complete customization.
I've started selling the shoes at the end of 2017 under the brand name FUSED footwear. So far, all development has been done and financed by myself. This also shows the great potential of 3D-printing for entrepreneurs, creating a completely independent and sustainable business.
Customers can purchase the shoes at www.fusedfootwear.com and those can be shipped worldwide. Hopefully, with a successful business, I can also delete the worldwide shipping soon, by printing locally.
Philippe Holthuizen, 3D Cobbler at FUSED footwear
FUSED footwear introduces the first fully customizable, 3D-printed sneaker!
A sustainable option for sneakerheads and eco-warriors to 'Wow!' with their kicks.
FUSED: 'We realized that 3D-printing offered advantages for footwear that went well beyond traditional footwear. It's an exciting opportunity to realize both a totally new product and a circular retail concept.'
FUSED's footwear can be customized in numerous ways and are then fully 3D-printed to order. The company also has a recycling program, where they'll take back your old FUSED shoes to completely recycle them into new 3D printed footwear!
The shoes we wear are often an important part of expressing our style and personality. But most of us know by now that the footwear industry is hardly an eco-friendly, sustainable business. As long as we buy mass-produced shoes that can not be easily recycled, we are part of the problem.
That's where FUSED footwear comes in, giving us the first fully circular shoes. Their 3D-printed one-piece shoes can be completely recycled into new 3D printing filament. To entice customers to send their old FUSED shoes back, they offer a 20% discount on new orders in return. And as the shoes are made-to-order and leverage the advantages of 3D-printing, each shoe can be customized to perfectly fit your style.
The shoes are waterproof and feature an integrated structured midsole which provides both support and cushioning. When opting for the custom design, customers are able to create over 40.000 combinations.
The brand and the shoes were developed over the last year by Philippe Holthuizen. He bought a relatively cheap Chinese 3D printer in May 2017, convinced he could make a wearable, fashionable 3D-printed shoe. It took him 6 months of experimentation to get to a first pair of wearable prototypes, and another 3 months to refine the design enough for sales. He then spent another 2 months developing a shopify website. He is now working on extending the shoe collection and finding a better product-market fit. And yes, the latter is the wrong way round.
To order a pair of FUSED shoes, simply visit www.fusedfootwear.com and either find a pre-designed pair you like, or customize a pair yourself. Once you've placed your order, your shoes will be 3D-printed within a week and then shipped to you. For special requests, you can contact the creator directly at philippe@fusedfootwear.com.
