MESA is a portable light that operates on the simple principle that light should shine where you're looking and not in your eyes. MESA's revolutionary form factor provides directed light without glare so you can see indoors and out. MESA is tall enough to work under and short enough to see over, making it ideal for almost any situation.

Industrial designer Ravi Varma started MESA as a project to light the picnic table in his Brooklyn backyard, and it soon evolved into a new lighting concept. He was frustrated by traditional lanterns based on their same form factor as classic Coleman gas lamps—they tend to shoot light in all directions, which invariably blinds everyone around the table.
Coming from a background in high-end interior lighting, Varma wanted to focus on lightingthe space as well as light quality. The goal was to create the soft warm glow of a Brooklyn bar or restaurant, but with portable and battery powered lighting instead of overhead pendants. So instead of hanging the light overhead, MESA places it just under eye-level, which means the lamp itself blocks the glare from the light source.
By using the latest lithium battery and LED technology, MESA can be packed down into a slick, easy to pack profile of 1"x 2" x 13". The light is made from a single piece of machined aluminum and is coated with a durable anodized finish. The legs snap into place using a bungee system with tapered ends inspired by tent poles. MESA is great for all kinds of situations and environments, including camping, working in your workshop, or just hanging out in the backyard.

Reminiscent of Jonas Damon's Trestle design for Roll and Hill: http://jonasdamon.blogspot.com/
Very unique design form. The self-assembly is playful and really smart. Well done!
Wow! Elegant and yet so simple.
