WATER PASS provides a simple yet clever solution to an age old problem— it is a filter for your sink that allows water to drain quickly even with food waste in the center well.

THE BACKGROUND
When the filter in a sink is filled with food waste, water does not go down easily. Stagnant water in a blocked sink causes several inconveniences; not only will it make dish washing more difficult, it will also cause bad odors and microorganisms which make for unhygienic kitchen environments.
CHALLENGES PRESENT OPPORTUNITIES
We designed within the WATER PASS filter a separate drain hole which helps to drain water even with the presence of food waste. Also, a double filter system helps to keep the inner food waste separate from outer water drain which will help to maintain a more hygienic kitchen environment by drying the food waste within an independent structure.
DESIGN FEATURES
When the sink is filled with food waste, you can easily throw the waste away by lifting the inner filter using its handle. You can prevent bad odors from coming through by covering and collecting the water and blocking the drain hole.
The outer filtering chamber blocks the water from flowing into the food waste filter which makes it dry and suppresses further propagation of bacteria.

Agree with Juan. Seems like a great concept but doesn't look like anyone tried mocking it up to see if it works! Water will generally flow towards the path of least resistance - and taking the food particles with it. So once the centre fills up water will start flowing towards the meshes and it will clog. Also seems very deep. It would be better if they can develop for existing sinks - most sinks all ready have built in collector (albeit very large)
It seems to me food would just collect on the edge where the screen is and block water anyway. We just started using one of these (http://www.lowes.com/pd_204695-1366-10051_0__?productId=3196901) Disposal Genie and it actually works very well. Different purpose, but it reminded me of it. You can get it at a Benny's for $5.
