It's perhaps the first truly portable and fuss-free standing desk with a twist (literally). Its functionality and form stem from its simple mechanism, an age-old box-spiral folding technique. No parts, no assembly required. LEVIT8 is also slim enough to fit into your laptop case when collapsed, and gives the flexibility of transforming any ordinary desk into a sit-stand desk anytime, anywhere.

Story

The story of LEVIT8 began last year when Justine noticed some of her friends using their laptops on top of cardboard boxes and even chairs above their tables. Strange. We all knew about the dangers of sedentary sitting, but never got around to changing our habits.

We were surprised by the variety of products found on the market—mainly standing desks—aimed at curing this "sitting disease". We read blogs and reviews of standing desks. It seems the majority of users find it strenuous to stand for hours on end, and resort to switching between sitting and standing every 20-60 minutes. We did more extensive research, only to find that standing all day is as bad as sitting all day. "Movement is the key, no matter how small," experts say. So it's all about finding the right balance of alternating between positions for ourselves!

And since most of the work we do is done on our laptops, which we carry from place to place, we wanted a portable standing desk we could carry as easily as our laptops and set up on any table and desk.

We knew we wanted to create a solution much more affordable and portable than a standing desk that also allowed us to effortlessly switch between sitting and standing.We went through numerous rounds of rigorous ideation, quick prototyping and iterations based on feedback from the local community, before we zoomed in on this piece of magic - an easily collapsible form that required no parts or assembly.

We quickly constructed full-scale prototypes by joining 8 triangular grey board panels together to evaluate its stability. And found an ideal balance of form and function in this surprisingly advantageous 8-panel twisting structure.

We then immediately went through an intense stage of further prototyping with many different materials and methods with the goal of achieving a balance of portability, durability, ease of use and aesthetics.

Following the incorporation of stiffer internal panels to lay the foundation of LEVIT8, and establishing the core materials, the team moved on to fine-tuning every last detail by getting involved in every stage of the design process- from concept to completion.

How is LEVIT8 different?

-Seamlessly switch between sitting and standing. This Box-Spiral folding technique allows it to be collapsed with a simple twisting motion.

- Slimmer and Lighter than a Macbook Air for ultimate portability and easy storage. Slip it into your shelf, your bag or even your laptop case.

- Ergonomic. Keeps your shoulders relaxed and elbows bent at 90 degrees while you are using your laptops as experts recommend.

- Stable and weight-bearing. A closed loop of triangular panels leaning on each other creates a stable base that is able to support more than 20 times its own weight.

- Durable. Crafted from especially tough fabric that is water-repellent and stain-proof, it's hardy enough to follow you on all your adventures and survive your coffee spills!
