Evidence shows that a number of facial expressions are related to similar emotions across cultures. The language of our eyes is also one of the most powerful and effective tools for non-verbal communication. Ulo is a cute surveillance camera in the form of a pet owl that utilizes this form of communication by interacting with you through eye expressions.

While today more and more objects are successfully connecting and integrating with our technological world, few of them seem to truly attempt to connect with you. ULO is an interactive home monitoring owl that incorporates a level of interactivity uncommon in many modern devices. It hopes to redefine the way you relate to objects through the organic communication of eye contact.
Ulo creates a unique bond like no other device. The owl conveys its connection to you through the language of eye expressions and movements— for example, when Ulo seems tired, the battery is low. When you take a snapshot, Ulo blinks. Its eyes follow your movements and Ulo squints when someone is watching live video. Other randomly generated animations add that extra spark of life that make the monitor unique.
Designed to truly connect with wireless systems, the Ulo can not only be placed anywhere wirelessly but is also programmed to connect with your mobile phone, programs like IFTTT so you can automatically turn on Ulo when you leave the house, and even connects with weather apps so you can tell you through the owl's expressions if it's going to rain or if pollen count is high.Eye expressions are animated thanks to new round LCD screens originally manufactured for next-generation smart watches.
ULO is currently raising money for production via Kickstarter.
