BCAM offer cyclists a smarter cycling experience. Through an integrated recording and video system, it enables a more efficient way of training, an easier way of sharing, and a safer way of cycling.

BCAM uses an integrated prism to reflect the front-facing view into the
smartphone's rear camera. The prism allows smartphones to
function as cycle computer and sport camera simultaneously.

With an app and a website, BCAM integrates the data and video
recorded from the ride that allows users to share their cycling
experiences, simulate real rides in the training program, and
compete with others' records.

BCAM's recorded video also works as evidences when
accidents occur.

The Inspiration:

Every week around 1000 cyclists are involved in an incident or accident in the UK. A total of 24,059 road traffic collisions, involving personal injury within Greater London, were reported to the Metropolitan and City Police during 2012, resulting in 18,973 cyclists injured and 118 killed. In 2013 the Brits bought 3.2 million bikes, which valued at £745 million, and cycled 5.1 billion kms. Meanwhile, the unit sales of action cameras worldwide from 2010 to 2014 boosts from 0.2 to 5.5 million, and are tracking toward a 9 million unit number in the next four years.

I want to do something about the unfortunate situation and see the big potential of combining video with data. I created the BCAM to offer cyclists a smarter cycling experience. It's a more efficient way of training, an easier way of sharing, and a safer way of cycling.

Scenarios:

There are 4 modes for BCAM:

A. SPORT: the app records and combines the data and the video which allows the cyclist to share and analyze how they perform on a particular route over time.

B. TRAINING: the recorded data and video will be used for cyclists to examine their own rides and challenge each other. It could also be used with a trainer to simulate any segment in the world with all real recorded video contributed by cyclists. Imagine how could a cyclist do the Tour de France in London? The answer is here, your trainer will simulate the terrain of the route with different resistance and you will see exactly what Sir Bradley Wiggins sees in TDF.

C. CITY: works as dash camera, records video in a 3-minute-loop mode.

D. TOURING: No extra app needed, simply use the built-in camera app and enjoy the ride.
