Mado, meaning "window" in Japanese, uses an internet connection to gather information about the appearance of the sky and reflects this data in its LED display, all in real time.
The lamp is made of wood, concrete and LEDs.
You just have to plug the lamp in - it will gather data about the local time, weather and humidity to perfectly match the sky you can see outside.
The lamp will create a magic atmosphere in your living room - projecting colors of the morning sky as you wake up. Or a calming dark sky as you go to bed.
We've been going the wrong way by adding screens to all of our devices, we deserve objects that do not require us to be absorbed in a tiny screen to receive information. Mado is a way, to me, to approach new ways of representing internet data that fit daily life, that open up the channels through which we receive information and experience technology.
I believe in a future of product design that will move toward an elimination of user interface, where computerized information adapts to human life rather than people having to constantly relearn how to interact with information.
