ERGO is the headboard is crafted from fabric scraps, a byproduct of clothing production that would otherwise contribute to textile waste.
This sustainable approach transforms surplus materials into a complete piece of furniture, showcasing the potential for repurposing and reducing environmental impact.

Why?
Around 85% of all textiles in the US are discarded, with millions of tons ending up in landfills or being incinerated annually. The average American disposes of approximately 37 kg of clothing each year.
Globally, an astonishing 92 million tonnes of textiles waste is generated annually, leading to detrimental environmental consequences. (Source BBC)
By repurposing fabric scraps into furniture components, we aim to mitigate this waste and promote sustainable practices within the furniture industry.
How?
1. Fabric scraps generated during product embroidery at the factory are collected instead of being discarded.
2. These scraps, which would typically be thrown away, are repurposed to create knitted rugs.
3. The plywood headboard is then upholstered with these knitted rugs, providing a unique and visually appealing finish.
4. The curved shape of the headboard is carefully designed to enhance comfort and create a sense of personal space for activities such as reading in bed.
Drawing inspiration from traditional handicrafts common in rural areas, we aim to preserve the authentic texture and cultural significance of the province. By utilizing old weaving techniques in a modern context, we create a stylish and sustainable piece of furniture that pays homage to its cultural roots while promoting eco-conscious design principles.
That approach not only addresses the pressing issue of textile waste but also showcases the beauty and versatility of repurposed materials in furniture design.
