Gest is a groundbreaking wireless input device that can be used to control just about anything — and that puts the product in a category beyond most current consumer experiences. Simply put, how do you make an uncommon technology feel like it’s always been part of one’s life? This the challenge this startup put before Pushstart in designing the Gest controller. Infinite possibilities. Whether replacing a keyboard or flying drones, the Gest controller offers an innovative answer. When the Apotact Labs team approached Pushstart, the controller technology was embedded in a glove, much like less-impressive predecessors from the gaming space. The client team asked us to make this innovative, unconventional object feel completely natural. Wearable challenges. We grappled with wearables-specific questions like how to handle varying sizes, make it comfortable, and design for both high-volume manufacture and a low-volume beta without breaking the bank. To find answers, Pushstart made a series of user testing models. Once users helped us discover what the product wanted to be, we figured out how to present it to the world.
