This year SXSW was supposed to host a design talk with Don Norman, Ayse Birsel and John Zapolski. With the festival canceled, the trio have decided to livestream the event tomorrow (Friday, May 15th, 1pm Pacific Time) for free.
The talk, entitled "Old People are Cool, Design for Them Sucks," will address the following:
These days, good design has thankfully made its way into just about every category of products and services, from apps to automobiles to augmented reality. The last hiding place for consistently terrible design might be the things made to serve the 55 million Americans over 65. Why is design for older people still so ugly, thoughtless, and bleak? And what could it be like if we made things worth loving?
The session will also serve as a light preview of a new venture studio launching to build companies focused on helping older adults love, work and live better, [and on] cultivating a cultural + social movement within the design community focused on older generations.
You can register to stream the talk here.
