Guided by the motto "Let's Make USELESS Machines," Japanese artist Marina Fujiwara creates muda-zukuri. Not quite the same as chindogu ("unuseless inventions"), muda-zukuri translates roughly as "wasted creations." For example, here's her DIY gadget for getting out of Zoom meetings:
A selfie stick that shoots you from unflattering angles:
A wearable roll-out-the-red-carpet machine:
Sandles with no soles, just painful Lego pieces:
A machine that motivates you to work with the scent of money:
If you think she's knocking off Simone Giertz, it's worth nothing that Fujiwara started her muda-zukuri-based YouTube channel in 2013, a year before Giertz's 2014 YouTube debut.
Check out more of Fujiwara's bizarre inventions on her Instagram.
