If you're worried you didn't pay enough for your free weights, Louis Vuitton's got you covered. They're selling a pair of 6.7 pound / 3kg dumbbells for $2,720. (We did the math, and that's about $203 per pound.)
From the product copy:
"These Dumbbells have a striking aesthetic and sporty appeal. They are an ideal gift for those who wish to exercise in style or elevate their home gym with exclusive Louis Vuitton details. Each weight, made from lustrous metal, is finished with an eye-catching Monogram Eclipse canvas handle and House signature engravings."
- "Nice weights. What kind of metal is that?"
- "Lustrous metal."
Other sporting goods they're selling:
"Composed of a leather strand and handles covered with dark, masculine Monogram Eclipse canvas, the new Christopher jump rope goes everywhere."
A huge improvement over jump ropes that only go some places. My hat's off to LV's engineers.
"Ideal for travel, this sporty set includes two professionally designed ping-pong paddles, regulation balls in a custom holder, and an exclusive cover crafted of masculine Monogram Eclipse canvas, accented with an LV Circle medal."
Now see, this is how they get you. The paddles and the "masculine" canvas only cost $5 a pair, but the four balls cost $567.50 each. Classic marketing trick.
"Pop colors and different-sized Monograms bring a playful quality to this Monogram Giant volley ball. Leather and canvas materials create an upbeat patchwork of panels, in a playful interpretation of the iconic Monogram."
The brief given to the copywriter: "Use the words 'playful' and 'monogram' as much as possible."
And great news, folks: LV's website notes that they're offering free shipping for Mother's Day.
