Everyone not living under a rock now knows that 20 seconds of handwashing is enough to kill virus particles. But Vox put together a fantastic demonstration, using a black light and some helpful explanations of how fat behaves in water, so that you can see and understand exactly what soap does:

Soap DOES NOT kill the virus, it helps to remove it.
Soap molecules have an affinity for lipids and water. Soap binds the virus to water so it can be flushed away after it rubbed off the surface.

No one's eyes are physically capable of seeing a virus under any kind of light unless they're from K-PAX.

The video was so close to getting it right, just washing for 20 seconds it not exactly the right message.
The soap doesn't really take 20 seconds to break down the virus otherwise the message would be lather and wait.
The main message is to perform proper handwashing technique which actually takes about 20 seconds to complete and it will also help rub off the natural oils that your body produces reducing the amount of virus sticking to your hands in addition to how the soap acts on the virus itself as explain in the video.
