My great grandparents had a lamp that worked like that, but it was the heat from the bulb that turned it. Also, the image was a forest fire. The movement in the lamp make the fire flicker.

Very much like this one (http://www.moonliner.com/ForestFire.html).

When I was a little kid is was very cool. Now? It just seems wrong.
