Emilie Baltz has designed up something great for you to check out on holiday Monday if you're in NYC: Picnick, a fully thought-thru green 'n' tasty snack bar down in Battery Park (nice views of the Statue of Liberty if you're there). Here's the pitch:

Picnick is a sustainable food kiosk located in the Battery Conservancy of New York City. As a mini model of consumer & eco conscious food service, Picnick sources most ingredients from small farms and local businesses; any global vendors must meet Fair Trade quotas or adhere to a socially conscious philanthropy.

Likewise, a percentage of all Picnick profits go back to supporting the Battery Conservancy gardens that surround its two idyllic locations on New York Harbor. Such gestures further emphasize the locally-minded efforts of this enterprise.

In an attempt to diminish the waste footprint of New York City, Picnick's disposable take-out containers, cutlery, cups, and labels are all biocompostable and biodegradable. What does that mean?

Picnick disposables are made from biodegradable bioplastics and paper. They are derived from renewable raw materials such as starch (e.g. corn, potato, tapioca etc), cellulose, soy protein, lactic acid etc., not hazardous in production and decompose back to carbon dioxide, water, biomass etc. in the environment when discarded.

Picnick uses 100% biodegradable self adhesive labels made from renewable an replenishable resources, incorporating a completely biodegradable adhesive and face material.

The kiosk menu boards are made from Richlite - a premiere manufacturer of paper-based fiber composites used for a variety of architectural, food service, recreational and industrial applications. All Richlite materials are manufactured out of environmentally sustainable resources harvested from certified managed forests in North America.

Diverse merchandise such as natural wooden Picnick baskets and Fair Trade Ugandan cotton T-shirts offer consumers an array of accessories to lead the 'Picnick Life.'

In the coming months, Picnick will host various community events that support socially and eco-minded initiatives.

Picnick is available for catering and delivery, as well as breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktail, and dessert events at its outdoor location in the Battery Conservancy.
