Tokyo's amazing sewers

Architecture students or those with structural engineer buddies have probably already seen these, but for those who haven't, feast your eyes on some eye-popping photos of Tokyo's underground sewer system. The photos, which bring Edward Burtynsky's work to mind, look like they've been ripped straight from an anime movie. Amazing, I find it very reminiscent of Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira, where two scenes come to mind: the case the sewers (evident this one) and the place where Akira is kept underground...

This is truly the one of the most impressive project I have ever seen. The shear size, the immense quantity of steel and concrete - and to think, it's all subterranean.
