These days, children are at a higher risk than ever of developing obesity thanks to unhealthy habits like being over-sedentary, eating too much junk food, and making themselves slaves to the TV and video games. Phil Hodgkins, currently working on his PhD in sports technology at Loughborough University, has collaborated with Playdale in creating the i.play intelligent play system. It's an interactive playground that integrates physical activity with challenging single or group games to encourage healthy and intelligent exercise behaviors in kids. The structure is outfitted with switches that light up and sound off to signify which switch needs to be pushed, pulled, pressed, spinned, turned, or stamped. Players can upload and keep track of their scores as well as check out how they're measuring up to their peers.
