Rain, thanks for all of these links. I'd like to suggest another maker that has a youtube channel, Clickspring. This guy is an awesome machinist that makes clocks and tools in his small shop. He's working on something called an Antikythera mechanism (ancient Greek planet calculator) right now. http://www.clickspringprojects.com/videos
