Every city has a different relationship with punk rock, most of them messy and irreverent. Portland is no exception, and tonight we'll hear about its earliest days from Mark Sten, musician and author of All Ages: The Rise and Fall of Portland Punk Rock. In keeping with that spirit, we're deconstructing the standard Curiosity Club format. Mark will lead a largely Q&A presentation, following about 5 minutes of introductory remarks. The audience will be encouraged - but not required - to focus initially on (a) punk rock, (b) in Portland, (c) from 1977 into the early 1980s. After things get rolling, he's not too concerned with restricting the conversation to that particular topic. Starts 6pm PT at the Hand-Eye Supply shop and streaming on the Curiosity Club page.

Mark Sten moved to Portland in 1961 and he's lived here since, with the exception of a year in LA and a couple of years in Alaska. He has a B.S. in history from PSU. The only job he's held for longer than a year was as manager and co-owner of a sound reinforcement (PA) company called Concert Sound, from 1982 until 2013, a job that got him and his business partner inducted into the Oregon Musician's Hall Of Fame. He's played in a number of bands since 1969, and has released 6 full-length albums under the name of The Oblivion Seekers.
