We've got very little hard information, but it seems a handful of European and Scandinavian individual bloggers have been seeded with photos of these forthcoming IKEA designs. The Swedish furniture giant will soon be releasing their IKEA PS 2014 collection, a new line designed "for a home in constant motion, always ready for new situations and furniture needs."
The pieces are quirky to be sure. For one there's this peculiar narrow bench, intended to be a used as temporary butt-parking station while you take your shoes on and off, and it takes up a minimum of space:
There's this odd pendant lamp (pictured at top and below) that brings to mind an exploding Death Star:
And this ladder-like storage shelving unit:
So what's the line all about? While the teaser video doesn't show too much...

You could say it is design that moves you—to live more simply and do more in the space you have. IKEA PS 2014 brings flexibility and an unconventional way of living to everyone, by combining form, function, quality, sustainability and a low price.
Today, for the first time ever, more people live in cities than in the countryside. They move more often and live in smaller spaces. But they still dream of a beautiful, functional home that perfectly fits their lives. And perhaps most importantly, they have less money to spend. These global insights have inspired the IKEA PS 2014 collection. "We've chosen to devise a series of products that offer cutting-edge design that remains affordable," says Peter Klinkert, Project Manager for the IKEA PS collections. The IKEA PS 2014 collection doesn't include any core functional pieces such as sofas or beds. Rather, it responds to the way young people live by focusing on design that you can move around and use in different ways. "These are multifunctional designer objects that involve us in the design conversation, depending on where we place them and how we use them."
The IKEA PS 2014 collection targets creative young urbanites. Therefore, it was important that it was designed by the very same creative young urbanites. And to truly make the collection globally relevant it was essential that the creative team included designers from every corner of the globe. A team of young designers was chosen to work closely with IKEA's own in-house designers to bring IKEA PS 2014 to life.
The projected launch date is sometime in April, presumably at the Milan Furniture Fair as in past years.
One thing that won't be part of the collection? The Expedit, of course.
