From the 'You Can Draw With Anything' Department: Seung Mo Park's Gorgeous Steel Mesh Portraits

While Chuck Close's tool of choice was the pencil, artist Seung Mo Park makes his marks with a very different medium: Stainless steel mesh.

By painstakingly arranging scraps of the screen-door-like material, Park ia able to achieve gradations that give him stunning control of the ambient lighting, creating hyper-real and ethereal portraits.

The work is part of the artist's "MAYA" series, and interestingly enough, some of the source photography (like for the fourth image in this entry) is shot using models that are underwater.

Though based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, Park originally hails from Korea. In the video below, which appears to be shot at least partially in Korea, you can see his painstaking process in action.
