We've looked at entrepreneur Peter Mullin's stuff before, shortly after he opened his awesome Mullin Automotive Museum, which specializes in Machine Age and Art Deco era objects. Now the car enthusiast is back in the news for something that will directly affect a generation of ID students: He's generously donated $15 big ones (millions, not thousands) to Pasadena's Art Center College of Design.

Art Center made the announcement just this morning, and explained how Mullin's gift—the largest received in their 83-year history—is one that will keep on giving:

How does an investment of such magnitude improve an industrial design program already renowned for graduating many of the world's top vehicle, furniture and product designers? In recent years, the scope of industrial design projects has become significantly constrained by lack of space on the Hillside Campus. The Mullins' timely gift will create strategically important new studios and shops for the College's undergraduate programs in Environmental, Product and Transportation Design, enabling students and faculty to create and simulate the scale and quantity of projects that will be demanded over the coming decades. The Mullin donation will also contribute to the creation of studios, labs and prototyping facilities needed by the College's current graduate programs in Environmental, Industrial and Transportation Design.

"Having an opportunity to help with the development of this new building dedicated to industrial design and knowing the tremendous impact it will have on the future of transportation design is an exciting project for both me and [my wife] Merle," Mullin said in a press release.

For those of you who already attend Art Center, or know the campus, the new facility is planned for the five-acre South Campus. Michael Maltzan Architecture, whom New Yorkers will recognize as the firm that designed the temporary MoMA facility in Queens, will be tackling the project as part of a larger campus expansion and renovation.
