SIMPLE Mobile's 'Change Your Game' Sweepstakes

A couple weeks ago, we took a look at SIMPLE Mobile, a great new way to approach phones that's picking up steam here in the United States after seeing success around the world. If you have an unlocked phone that has a spot for a SIM card, SIMPLE Mobile makes it easy to use one of their SIMs and get yourself set up with low-cost, flexible phone, text and data plans.

As part of their promotion, SIMPLE Mobile has been hosting Change Your Game, a series of web videos and user submissions that show how young people are changing the game within their creative fields. In their first two episodes, they looked at the legendary street art and skater scenes of Los Angeles, and in the latest, they've moved east to Houston's world of rap.

Houston might not be the first city that comes to mind when it comes to hip hop, but talent comes from all over the world. Director Levon Maestro meets up with Justin Hunte, editor in chief of Hip Hop DX. "There are so many really cool cities that have really vibrant hip hop scenes right now. I think Houston might be the one," Hunte tells Maestro in the video. "I think we're right at the time now where maybe two years out you're gonna have that guy from Houston that's gonna be pretty big again."

The first two episodes highlight some of the game-changers in Houston's scene. Without a big radio or television presence, artists rely on the Internet to share their work. It's no secret that artists struggle to make a national impact with their work, but that's where a platform like Change Your Game opens doors. They meet up with MC Roosh Williams, a pre-law grad from the University of Texas and rising star in Houston's rap scene. Change Your Game surprises him with a fully-sponsored, day-long recording session at Houston's Digital Effects Studio for Williams to make an extended play (EP). A little shorter than an album but a lot more than a single, an EP provides the sort of opportunity that opens doors for an up-and-comer like Williams.

What's next for Change Your Game? As mentioned, there's a video sweepstakes for a chance to win an HTC or LG Smartphone or a Google Nexus Tablet. Winners may even have the chance to be featured in Maestro's video series and win a prize in their town that helps step up their game even more.

Some of our favorites? There's Paulina C., an aspiring screenwriter who wants to meet screenwriters and would love to assist on a comedy series. Brandon J., a sophomore college student, wants to go to school for skateboarding, and Ninoska M., a chef who wants a tablet to do research and keep her recipes.
