I recently hunted down and acquired Braun's classic Sixtant SM 31 razor from a source in Italy. The freaking thing was made in 1962 and it still works perfectly, but finding it wasn't easy. For those of you who don't want to spend your days scouring eBay and Etsy, here's a chance to pick up another Braun design classic without putting in the legwork: They've announced they're re-issuing their iconic ET66 Calculator, designed by Dietrich Lubs and Dieter Rams back in the '80s.
Featuring a slide-out cover, the ET66 "is the quintessential example of Rams' 'less but better' philosophy," says online retailer Vetted Shop, who will begin shipping the $49 calculators this August.
Even the younger generation, or those who weren't paying attention in History of ID class, will recognize the ET66 if they happened to own the first iPhone; it caused a bit of a brouhaha back in '07 when the "similarities" between the two designs began bouncing around the blogosphere.
The iPhone calculator design has since been tweaked to make the keys rectangular, even as the color scheme has remained the same. And speaking of the iPhone calculator, I feel like a dope for not discovering this until I took theses screenshots: Did you know that if you turn the phone sideways, the calculator changes from a regular one to a scientific model?
If I hadn't failed Calculus, I'd be getting my cosine on right about now.
