When playing Scrabble does it ever bother you, as a designer, that all of the letters are in Monotype News Gothic? And how about all those tacky colors on the board? Ever dreamed of a different font and a more aesthetically-pleasing board?
Well, then the Scrabble Typography Limited Edition is for you. Aimed squarely at the design geek crowd, the new set features sleek metal tile racks, six magnetized pieces of walnut that snap together to make the board, a graphic bi-color makeover for said board, and tiles covered in a random assortment of fonts. Even the box it comes in is hyper-designed, with the six board pieces sliding into a walnut storage case with a drawer, that in turn, slide into a box made of birch.
The US $200 set will be available this August. I should also point out that I don't actually know if the official Scrabble font is Monotype News Gothic, as the "Q" looks kind of questionable; I'll rely on one of you graphic designers to set me straight in the comments.
