In addition to selling jewelry in their namesake material, Bone Art Place also offers Maori jewelry in jade, Australian black jade, and pearl, all of which look stunning.
Most of the designs are carved into the same traditional Maori shapes as their bone designs, but these materials react with light much differently than the bone, absorbing, reflecting and colorizing it.
The jades are Nephrite, which has been long prized in Maori culture. It's indigenous to New Zealand and Australia but can also be found in Canada and other countries when stocks run low. The pearl is sourced, obviously, from the Pacific.
As beautiful as these pieces are, it really doesn't begin to scratch the surface of Bone Art Place's tremendous offerings. Stay tuned, as next we'll take a look at some of their specific featured artists.
