Everyday Carry "Pocket Curation" Blog

The latest "pictures of things in our pockets aligned in neat rows" blog we've stumbled across is Everyday Carry, this one addressing people closer to MacGyver than the average Joe:

Everyday Carry, or EDC, generally refers to small items or gadgets worn, carried, or made available in pockets, holsters, or bags on a daily basis to manage common tasks or for use in unexpected situations or emergencies. In a broader sense, it is a lifestyle, discipline, or philosophy of preparedness.

Clicking through EDC you see a lot of stainless steel, multi-tools and things that can be used to kill other human beings, though those latter items are presumably carried in the name of self-defense. Guess we all have different definitions of what constitutes an emergency. In any case, it's a fascinating browse. Also makes me want to see what the everyday carry requirements would be for those prepared for an industrial design emergency.

@tanuki - Yes we do. Millions of us. And contrary to what the media would have you believe our streets don't regress into wild west gunfights... amazing isn't it.

@tanuki -A pocket knife can be ultra useful, I used mine everyday even when I'm just sitting at a desk drawing. I dont carry my pistol everyday or everywhere but as the saying goes "better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it"

My daily carry is one of my pocket knives, a pen, wallet, keys, cell phone and watch. That usually covers me just fine. Napkins are free and everywhere so I always have something within walking distance to grab and sketch if needed.

listening to grown men jerk off over flashlights and guns is probably one of the most entertaining things to do.

I always have a bag with a laptop and design supplies (pens, markers, pads of paper, postits, etc.) as my EDC In addition to flashlights, folding knives, compass, etc.

No guns, yet.

  Hunting knives no, fixed blades possibly. Depends a lot on a persons occupation and geographic location. Torches and guns, absolutely.
