Deflexion is pretty neat stuff; it's a textile from Dow Corning that incorporates silicone and provides impact protection. Unlike bulky body armor, Deflexion is flexible, breathable, washable, and sew-able, which is probably why it's already been incorporated in everything from rodeo vests and skateboarding shoes to Rukka motorcycle suits. It can also be readily layered, so more padding can be built up in certain areas, for example on elbows or knees, and its applications for protecting electronics devices is a no-brainer.
Formerly called APS, for Active Protection System, the material isn't just passively padded; when struck, it hardens instantly, then reverts back to its flexible state. Learn more about the stuff here.
