On October 1, The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, in partnership with GE, hosts the conference entitled "Why Design Now? Solving Global Challenges," part of a program of events associated with this year's National Design Triennial. The theme celebrates and recognizes the power of design to transform the world--for the better. This, of course, involves all of us. In the spirit of global participation, we're proud to be hosting the live broadcast of the entire event, extending its reach beyond New York City to the rest of the world.
Tune in here anytime between 9am and 4pm EST on October 1st to catch up on the dialogue, or simply join in on the discussion using the twitter hash tag #designnow. Though you should really just take an R&D day and watch the entire event, we've picked out a few highlights to help you plan. First, TED founder Richard Saul Wurman will set the tone with his keynote at 9:10 am: Ignorance is Bliss: The More We Know, the Less We Understand. We're looking forward to hearing from Chris Conley, Founding Director of Gravity Tank, on designing products for everyday lives at 10:50am and Smart Design's Dan Formosa and Eric Freitag's presentation of the Cimzia Prefilled Syringe Case Study at 2:50 pm. Finally, moderated panel discussions about green design, international design, and healthcare reform dot the conference at 9:50 am, 11:30 am and 3:10 pm.
Check out the full schedule—there is something for everyone within the vast range of topics.
We'll see you online next Friday.
