Today, the shortlist for Britain's 2010 Prince Philip Designers Prize was announced. The award is granted by the Design Council to one designer each year who has broken new ground in design and raised its status in the public and business sector, all the while contributing to design education. The final winner will be announced on November 9th by The Duke of Edinburgh.

The Nominees are: Chrisopher Baily, MBE, Chief Creative Director of Burberry; Neville Brody, graphic designer; Margaret Calvert, graphic designer; Zaha Hadid, Architect; Eva Jiricna, architect; John Makepeace, furniture designer; Bill Moggridge; interaction designer (and more); Adrian Newey, Formula 1 designer and aerodynamicist; and Viviene Westood, fashion designer.The prize has been in the running for 51 years now, established by the Design Councel in 1959 in a response to post-war austerity, aimed at stimulating and rewarding advances in the field of design.
