Generally speaking, when using bladed objects to cut something, cutting towards your own body is a no-no; but that is an ergonomically easier task than cutting away from you, which is why we do it with boxcutters, X-actos and utility knives.
Safety knife manufacturer Martor designed the Easysafe to cut towards the user and yet still remain safe, by tucking the blade away behind a plastic lever on a hinge. They also took pains to design in tool-free blade-changing capabilities and a way to temporarily prevent blade-changing for safety reasons. Check it out in the video below (which will set off your Cheesy Voiceover Alert):
Martor has picked up a Red Dot Design Award for their troubles.
