Linda Liu & Michael Leung, two designers based in Hong Kong, have just started 24 Hour Market, a network of local markets from around the world. Through this portal, people can purchase regional and cultural objects directly from independent market vendors.
As a huge fans of night/street markets, we love the concept, even in its infancy. Currently, only a few stalls from Hong Kong's Ladies' Market are shown, selling shoes, combs, games and lighters. Locations in Stockholm, Shanghai and London are marked as coming soon.
The interface, sadly, needs work—it's clear that the designers are trying to mix a purchasing platform with a visual narrative, but it's not quite there yet. Maybe they should team up with text-to-buy experts Subports? In any case, the project is worth the experimentation and will certainly improve with time.
