This week, Rotterdam Ahoy hosted the Material Xperience 2010 event from 27-29 January 2010. During three days exhibitors showcased their latest materials, supported by inspiring lectures (see all lecturers here) and ceremony for the Daylight Award 2010 which promotes good use of daylight in architecture.
The winners of this year's Daylight Award are AL Light by Border Architecture and the Oostvaarderskliniek by Studio M10, both featured here at Architectenweb (the biggest architecture site in the Netherlands). For more information about the award see the dedicated website www.daylight-award.nl

FOC stands for Freedom of Creation, well known as pioneers in the world of rapid prototyping, or better, "rapid manufacturing" as Ilko Bosman says himself. One of their latest manufactured items is these 3D printed iPhone cases.
Recy-block is designed by Gert de Mulder, is a good example of a "trash made" material. The material is made by heat pressing plastic waste into this fixed shape.
Nanai is a leather is made from Salmon skin, a former waste product from fish canneries. The color range is made possible through (chrome free) vegetable tanning.
Besides the earlier tech materials, these panels by Dutch designer Annette van Huizing are made from ordinary toilet paper. These elements are not meant for outdoor applications but accordingly have good acoustic properties.
