French artist Yann Lestrat plays up the bubble level in "Nevroz" his new piece for Belgian manufacturer Tamawa, who make all their products from the Bakelite spheres inspired by the vocabulary of colored balls used in the Eames Hang-It-All coat rack.
The level, a round (Bakelite) bead embedded with a bubble chamber and a circular mark, is less (or not at all) about plumbness, instead reflecting on "psychic, individual and collective balance." I can imagine the meditative value of trying to hold the sphere perfectly still, or balancing it just so on a tabletop.
The object is the newest addition to Tamawa's home collection and will debut at Maison & Object later this week.
