(No, those ain't electronic nunchucks.)
After a recent trip to the Arctic, I became obsessed with cold-weather gear and the things people have designed to help humans cope with wintry conditions.
The only thing worse than being cold is being cold and wet, a condition that ranges from annoying to dangerous. While searching for companies with products that combat this, I stumbled across a Seattle-based company called DryGuy, whose mission is "To keep you at an optimum level of comfort inside & out." They make a thorough series of products designed to dry wet garments out, like the simple and inexpensive convection-heat DryStix, above, and getting into more complicated stuff below:
The Circulator HDT and AC/DC models come with car-ready plugs in addition to the regular kind. The HDT adds internal fans for faster drying.
While the AC/DC and DryStix can take anywhere from 6-10 hours to dry out your gear, the Wide-Body is a quick-drying device that gets it down to about an hour. It can accommodate gloves and tall items like ski boots.
The Thermanator looks like a mere rack to hang boots from, but you plug it into the wall and it sends heat through the coils. It can also be wall-mounted, and unlike the fan-based products it's completely silent.
Then you get to the big boy of their line-up, the Gear Tree, which will dry your entire outfit out in about 2-3 hours.
There are a couple more products they make that we didn't have room for; you can check 'em out here.
