Two weeks ago, just blocks from the Core offices, a man I'd never seen before stopped me on the street and told me I couldn't go any further. Then a bullet-riddled Toyota Prius shot down the street backwards and whipped around a corner, still in reverse, pursued by three swerving NYC police cars.
They were filming a movie, of course ("The Other Guys") and the man was a P.A., or production assistant. You see them out on the street all the time, holding clipboards, talking into walkie-talkies. I always feel bad for them in the wintertime because they're out there for hours with their clipboards and walkie-talkies.
So, what does any of this have to do with the object pictured above? Well, that thing is a rechargeable heated hand warmer, and before you dismiss it as one of those idiotic gadgets in the line of "USB-something-stupid," consider what it's for: It was designed particularly for activities where you need to be out in the cold and have to physically manipulate something with your hands that gloves would interfere with. In other words it would be perfect for production assistants or photographers doing outdoor shoots where it becomes a hassle to keep pulling gloves on and off.
Anyways the product copy says it was designed for hunters and ice fishers, but we don't see too many of those here around the Core offices. But we've seen that bullet-riddle Prius twice. Also I saw Ron Perlman at the dog run, but I guess that's got nothing to do with anything.
