Don't look like much, does it? That there is the 1975 Hyundai Pony, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, recently selected by a South Korean design survey as "The most iconic example of industrial design made in Korea."
Back in '75 no one had even heard of Hyundai, but "the Pony was praised for its sleek and modern design and is thought to have elevated the level of design of Korean industrial products to a higher level." Now, thirty-four years later, Hyundai has just overtaken Ford to become the world's number four automaker, behind Toyota, GM, and VW, respectively. Below is a shot of their HED-5 i-Mode concept car.
