I love when design solves a problem that I had, but didn't realize I had. All of us have our little pet peeves that annoy us, but I'm often not sure which are ubiquitous and which are idiosyncratic.
I take my dogs out for hour-long walks. Great for them, mind-numbing for me, until I started listening to audiobooks on my iPhone.
Thing is, people find my dogs cute, and will continually stop me to inquire about them. I fumble for the 'pause' button when I realize I'm being spoken to, but usually end up yanking an earpiece out as it's quicker and easier. Once the strangers are finished molesting my pooches, I pop the earpiece back in and continue on--only to realize the audiobook has advanced a few minutes without me, and trying to precisely rewind it on an iPhone while holding three dog leashes is just about impossible.
Sony Ericsson's ingenious new MH907 headphones are motion-activated, so when you yank one, your music player stops playing. Pop it back in, and play resumes. And they work the same when hooked up to a phone: Phone rings, you put the earpiece in your ear, phone picks up.
Unfortunately, this doesn't quite solve my problem...as the darned things only work with Sony Ericsson phones. But here's to hoping some Apple aftermarket manufacturer is reading this post!
