Due to its size, a spirit level can get beat up inside of a tool bag. Festool has come up with a nifty way of keeping theirs safe: Their design slides right into the handle of the Systainers that all of their tools come in. The little spring-loaded green blister locks it in place.
The bottom of the level is notched so it can ride on a pipe.
It's made out of anodized aluminum, and runs $65.

Interesting idea.
I have several spirit levels of various sizes and find it more important to have it close to hand when I need one. Usually in my pocket.
As for protecting it from damage, I would be hard pressed to find anyone who has damaged one without trying to do so.
One of my levels is a vintage one (yes, vintage tool collecting is a thing) that is about 90 years old, has a few dings on it but still works fine. Replacing it with a $65 one that hides away in the handle of a case does not seem like a wise decision.
