Australian artist/designer Elliat Rich has a very different take on cabinet doors. This is her Weaver Cabinet:
The shelves are solid oak, and the "doors" are UV-stable nylon fringe.
An earlier iteration of Rich's design was ceiling-suspended.
The Weaver Cabinet is in production by Australian brand DesignByThem.

Bummer that the "door" part is just plastic.... hemp version or something natural would be nice.
I think it's more acceptable to use plastic when it's intended as a durable good like furniture. Still has the issues of sourcing for production, but not as bad as ten million "recyclable" plastic bottles sitting in landfills.
But as you say, a renewable material would be a better choice.
The early version has that cousin ITT vibe about it... or, maybe, a teal colored female minion.
The other one does not seem like a $7,700 piece of furniture.
