Here's an interesting and low-tech communication device for runners: A finger-worn warning bell. Oregon-based inventor Kevin John Nadolny reckons it's more effective (and perhaps less rude) than simply screaming "On your left," particularly since pedestrians around the world are already conditioned to react to bicycle bells.
"Runbell is extremely loud and can easily be heard from more than 30 feet away. People have plenty of time to react. They can move left or right and you can still pass with ease. Dog walkers have time to calm their dog and pull them close."
The made-in-Japan Runbell features a brass hammer that will never rust. The main casting is stainless steel, and the product comes with four silicone inserts that you can use to find the right fit, whether you're bare-handed or wearing gloves.
Nadolny reckons the Runbell should also be attractive to skaters and rollerbladers.
has been successfully Kickstarted, with 25 days left to pledge at press time. Prices start at $35.

Not the worst idea but they should probably thank Spurcycle bell for 99% of the design....
I guess people just can't help but rip off the spurcycle bell design.
Yikes. That looks like a photocopy.
In my country (the Netherland) a bell sound always comes from a bicycle. So, I'm afraid, this will be very, very and very confusing in our real world.
Consider using your mouth and making a sound... for example, practice saying "on your left." Or use your feet to scrape the pavement to make some noise. If these techniques fail, you may also consider not caring or staying home.
I use a bell a lot in Tokyo on my bike but I rest my finger on it to give a polite Dink instead of the obnoxious Diiiiing. Works 99% of the time.
At least here in Portland I find about half of all pedestrians and other riders have Airpods / other earbuds in, and no bell is loud enough to really get through... (I have a similar Spurcycle copy on my handlebars)
