A company called Analogue has combined technology with nostalgia to produce a handsome piece of industrial design. They've created a new, physical version of the Nintendo 64 gaming platform, using FPGA (field-programmable gate arrays) hardware; in other words this isn't an emulator, but a piece of hardware that you can actually plug an original N64 cartridge into.
"Analogue3D represents a milestone in video game preservation: its not only the world's first reimagining of an N64 - but the worlds first 100% compatible recreation of an N64. Analogue spent nearly 4 years engineering it in FPGA. No more incompatibilities found in software emulation like input lag, graphic/audio inaccuracies, timing/frame rate issues and more. For the first time, you can re-experience the N64 exactly as it was meant to be, without compromise."
Incredibly, it can play the games at 10 times the resolution of the original N64, and in 4K. That said, you can also opt for the old-school CRT feel:
"Analogue3D's Original Display Modes are meticulously reproduced, virtually indistinguishable recreations of CRT displays. Capturing the warmth, depth, and texture in every frame. The soft glow of phosphor and vibrant colors unite with immersive scanlines and shadow masks. This isn't just upscaling — it's an unprecedented transformation."
While you can plug original N64 controllers into the console, the company has worked with peripherals manufacturer 8BitDo to produce a wireless version, sold separately:
"We worked closely with 8BitDo to design a wireless bluetooth recreation of the original N64 controller with a modern form factor. Crafted with an uncompromising attention to detail, the c-buttons, d-pad, and A/B buttons retain the original size, sub-layouts, and feel. Featuring a superior quality HALL Effect joystick, with the original-style N64 gate. Say goodbye to the infamous loose joysticks that plagued original controllers. And now you can even update your 8BitDo 64 Controller directly with Analogue3D simply by plugging it in. A tribute to play N64 like never before."
The Analogue3D system runs $250, and the controllers are $40 apiece. They're not stocked just yet, but are available for preorder.

I swear emulation fans are like Charlie Brown and Lucy with the football. Yeah, this time selling a Nintendo product without a license will go right for you, surely the last ten thousand times when a company got wrecked were flukes.
