Unusual Product Design: A Suitcase / Leg-Rest for Traveling Kids
The BedBox, by industrial design firm Frost Produkt
From Scandinavia comes this Stokke BedBox, designed by ID firm Frost Produkt.
As the firm explains:
"The BedBox® is the world's only premium, ride-on suitcase for children with an in-flight bed or leg-rest feature. This travel essential combines Scandinavian style and aviation inspired design with practical features for the entire trip and allows your child to rest comfortably or sleep during long and short-haul flights and train rides. Fun and functional with ample storage, the BedBox® holds your child's must-haves."
"Once packed, let your little one ride it (or pull it) through the terminal for stress-free travel. Once the seat belt sign is off, transform the BedBox® from a suitcase into a bed in 5 simple steps. The ride-on suitcase is for children 3-7 years old, and the bed feature is best suited for children over 2 years old. Officially approved by most airlines."
"Frost Produkt got the task to design and develop the original idea by the founders of JetKids (Christina and Halvor Holmgren). As well as the innovative features it was important that the product had a premium feeling and that the aesthetics was appealing to both children and parents. Soon after launch the BedBox became very popular and has generated great sales. Frost has been involved in updating and upgrading the BedBox with new functionality and design features since and has also helped JetKids find a suitable production partner."
It seems like a pretty niche product—but it's been in production since 2015, and in 2022 alone they moved 80,000 units!

We had the Trunki, decidedly less premium and more fun. Always got marveling comments in the airport, so while I'm not surprised you think it's niche, it really shouldn't be.
I was worried when they came out that the kids would be all over the airport but the product actually seems to strike a great balance between keeping them occupied with a task while keeping them near their parents. I love seeing the kids on these.
Wait til you see the Trunki Gruffalo edition - mind will be blown:
