This outrageously chunky Icebreaker keyboard was designed by filmmaker Denis Agarkov.
"Architecture, especially the flatiron building in New York and a similar one in downtown L.A., has influenced me greatly," Agarkov told Null Society. "The wedge shape fascinates me, along with brutalist architecture in general. My aim was to create a keyboard that goes against the prevailing trends, adopting a more distinctive and challenging design."
The design is aimed at mechanical keyboard enthusiasts looking for something different. It was also intended to scratch Agarkov's creative itches: "Inevitably facing hard work that was not creatively stimulating, made me value my own creativity more," he explains, "and provoked me to adapt a non-compromising approach to design language. The desire to create something raw, purely passion-driven led me to develop the Icebreaker."
"One of the main challenges was balancing the design with practical considerations. For instance, the keyboard is intentionally heavy and large, which, funny enough, was a point of confusion for the manufacturers. Also, responding to community feedback and incorporating it without compromising the design vision was crucial."
Agarkov started a company, Serene Industries, to commercialize the design.
