The Mobile-Plate is like a BabyBjörn for your laptop

Product designer Zaining Lu created this Mobile-Plate, a wearable worksurface. Made of aluminum, it's essentially a BabyBjörn for your laptop…with a slide-out cupholder.

It has many practical applications, including carrying two hamburgers and a cup of coffee while delivering a rose.

One thing it won't do, however, is help you write complete ad copy.

The scary thing is, I can actually see this contraption catching on. We've already got cities filled with people walking around with their face in their phone. This is the next logical step.

The Mobile-Plate was successfully crowdfunded last year, and expected to ship last February. However, a campaign update written this month explains that they've yet to ship "due to some tooling issues."

If you think there are a lot of funny videos of people trying to walk while they are on their small portable phone wait until you see the videos of these users.

  Yeah, though I doubt it will become as popular as mobiles phones are today.
  It preserves the worst ergonomic sin of laptops - the close placement of the keyboard and monitor.
  I'm a little surprised that there hasn't been a similar product aimed at, for example, site surveyors. Before the iPad were Windows XP Tablet Edition devices, small tablet PCs that could be strapped to one wrist and used with a stylus held in the opposite hand.
  If mobile text entry is the aim, people can look at chorded typing using a one-handed device.
